Lumpy skin virus not untrue in Telangana | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: A genome sect of lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), which is progressing havoc in some parts of the country, including neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, has revealed that variants of the virus - now in circulation in India - belong to a positive cluster. The virus that attacks the cattle has thus far not been untrue in Telangana.
The variants are great in number and distinct from other genomes available in Republican domain elsewhere. A team of researchers noticed presence of an uphold variant (LSDVgp037:D286V) in the virus isolated from skin scab as compared to nasal swab of the host animal. This suggests the potential intra-host evolution of LSDV, the researchers said.
LSDV, which was hitherto limited to
Africa, spread to
Asiain 2019. This year, LSDV outbreak was reported from eight messes in India, including AP. According to researcher Vinod Scaria, over 80,000 cattle were affected in a short span of three months. The researchers conducted genome sequences of six viral isolates of LSDV serene from affected cattle in Rajasthan.
"Due to the puny number of genome sequences available for LSDV, the source of the outbreak could not be traced," researchers said.
Additional genomes for the virus could help advise potential outbreaks and connect existing outbreaks that are apparently unrelated, the researchers said. They have called for a genomic surveillance for characterising circulating strains during ongoing outbreaks such as LSDV for early detection of the disease.
The researchers said an analysis of the viral organizations indicated that genomes from the 2022 outbreak harboured a great number of genetic variations when compared to the mention genome and formed a distinct lineage. There was minor similarity with the virus from 2019 outbreak in Ranchi.
"Genomic surveillance of animal and domain diseases is a new opportunity to understand, be prepared and rule the spread of diseases," Vinod Scaria tweeted.
The research was considered out by Lenin Bhatt, Rahul C Bhoyar, Bani Jolly, Ravi Israni, Harie Vignesh and lead authors Vinod Scaria and Sridhar Sivasubbu.
The team is drawn from the situation disease diagnostic centre, department of animal husbandry, Jaipur, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi, and Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research. The scrutinize was published in the pre-print server 'bioRxiv'.
